Therapeutic Approaches

Every person is different, so therapy should be too. Below are the core modalities I draw from, and together we'll find the blend that fits you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT explores the relationship between our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and experiences. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to distress and develop practical strategies to support healthier thinking, coping, and behavioural change.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT offers practical skills for managing intense emotions, navigating relationships, tolerating distress, and becoming more mindful of your experiences. It can be particularly helpful when emotions feel overwhelming or difficult to regulate.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative, non-judgmental approach that helps you explore your own reasons for change. Rather than telling you what you should do, we work together to understand what matters to you and build motivation for meaningful, sustainable change.
Trauma-Informed & LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Care
Therapy grounded in an understanding of how trauma, identity, relationships, discrimination, and social experiences can influence mental health and wellbeing. Affirmative care means creating a space where your identity, relationships, gender, sexuality, and lived experiences are respected and affirmed, and therapy never seeks to change or pathologize who you are.
Polyvagal-Informed Care
I draw on principles associated with Polyvagal Theory to explore the connections between the nervous system, stress responses, emotions, body sensations, and experiences of safety. This can include building greater awareness of your body's responses to stress and practical strategies for regulation and grounding, integrated alongside other approaches.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
A structured, trauma-focused approach that helps people process the impact of traumatic experiences. It focuses on identifying and working through the beliefs and thought patterns that may develop following trauma, supporting a more balanced understanding and reducing the impact trauma continues to have on your life.

Your Therapy, Your Pace

You don't need to know which approach is right for you before starting. We'll explore what you're experiencing, identify your goals, and decide together which strategies fit best, and your therapy may draw from more than one approach as your needs change over time.
