Below are answers to common questions, followed by the practice policies that guide how I work. If anything isn't covered here, you're welcome to reach out.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a collaborative and individualized process. Sessions provide a confidential space to explore concerns, develop insight, build coping strategies, and work toward goals that are meaningful to you.
My approach may incorporate evidence-informed approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed strategies, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, and trauma-informed approaches, depending on your needs, goals, and clinical presentation. Therapy does not guarantee a particular outcome, and the approach may change as your needs change.
Who do you work with?
I provide psychotherapy services to adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma-related difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, adjustment concerns, relationship difficulties, and other mental health concerns that fall within my education, training, competence, and scope of practice.
If your needs are outside the scope of my practice, I will discuss appropriate referral or additional support options with you.
How do I know whether therapy is right for me?
You do not need to have a diagnosis to seek therapy. People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons, including wanting support during a difficult transition, improving emotional regulation, managing stress, processing difficult experiences, or developing healthier coping strategies.
An initial consultation can help determine whether my services are an appropriate fit for your needs.
How long are sessions?
Standard individual sessions are approximately 55 minutes.
The recommended frequency and duration of therapy will depend on your goals, clinical needs, and progress.
How often will I need therapy?
There is no standard number of sessions that works for everyone. Frequency is discussed collaboratively and may change over time.
Therapy may be short-term or longer-term depending on your goals and clinical needs.
Do you provide online therapy?
Yes. I offer secure virtual psychotherapy to eligible clients located in Ontario.
Virtual services are subject to clinical appropriateness, privacy considerations, technology availability, and applicable professional requirements.
If you are experiencing an emergency or require immediate assistance, virtual therapy should not be used as a substitute for emergency services.
Do you provide in-person appointments?
I currently provide psychotherapeutic interventions virtually.
Do you provide services outside Ontario?
Psychotherapy services are generally provided to clients who are physically located in Ontario at the time of service. Please contact me if you have questions about your eligibility for virtual services.
What happens during the first appointment?
The initial appointment typically includes discussion of your concerns, goals, relevant background, current functioning, and what you would like to accomplish through therapy.
Where clinically appropriate, assessment of safety and risk may also be part of the initial process.
We will also discuss confidentiality, informed consent, treatment expectations, and whether my services are an appropriate fit for your needs.
Is therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of psychotherapy.
Information shared during therapy is generally kept confidential, subject to applicable laws and professional requirements. There are limited circumstances in which information may need to be disclosed without your consent, including circumstances required or permitted by law, such as certain serious safety concerns, legal requirements, or protection of children or other vulnerable persons.
The limits of confidentiality will be discussed with you as part of the informed-consent process.
Can I contact you between sessions?
You may contact me through email or phone regarding scheduling and administrative matters.
Please do not use ordinary email, website forms, text messaging, or social media to send sensitive clinical information unless we have specifically agreed that the communication method is appropriate.
Messages are not monitored continuously and should not be used for urgent or emergency mental health concerns.
What should I do if I am experiencing a mental health emergency?
My practice is not an emergency or crisis service.
If you are in immediate danger, require urgent medical attention, or are unable to keep yourself or someone else safe, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
In Canada, you can also call or text 988 for suicide crisis support.
For non-urgent concerns, please contact me through the regular communication channels provided by the practice.
Do you provide medication or psychiatric services?
No. Psychotherapy does not include prescribing or managing medication.
Where clinically appropriate and with your consent, I may recommend that you speak with your family physician, psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, or another qualified healthcare professional.
Do you provide psychological diagnoses or assessments?
Psychotherapy services are different from formal psychological assessment and diagnosis. Please contact me if you are seeking a specific assessment or documentation so that I can determine whether I provide that service or whether a referral is more appropriate.
Do you work with couples or families?
If couples or family therapy is offered, additional considerations regarding consent, confidentiality, communication, and records will be discussed before treatment begins.
Can I use my insurance benefits?
Many extended health plans provide coverage for psychotherapy services, but coverage varies between insurers and individual plans.
I recommend confirming directly with your insurance provider whether services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) are covered under your specific plan.
You are responsible for confirming your coverage and understanding your plan's requirements.
Will you provide receipts?
Yes. Receipts are provided within 24 to 48 hours after a session, once payment has been received.
Please confirm with your insurer whether the receipt and provider designation meet your plan's requirements.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments are reserved specifically for you.
Please provide at least [24 or 48] hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Appointments cancelled with less than [24 or 48] hours' notice, or missed appointments, may be subject to the full fee of the session, unless an exception applies.
Please note that cancellation fees may not be covered by insurance.
Do you offer sliding-scale fees?
My goal is to make psychotherapy accessible. I presently have a wait list for sliding-scale spots. Eligibility and fees are discussed individually and documented as appropriate.
Can I book an appointment directly through the website?
Submitting a consultation request does not automatically establish a therapist-client relationship. A therapeutic relationship begins only after the appropriate intake, consent, and clinical processes have been completed.

3. Informed Consent
Before beginning psychotherapy, we will discuss the nature and purpose of therapy, anticipated benefits and limitations, confidentiality and its limits, communication expectations, fees, cancellation policies, and other relevant aspects of treatment.
You are encouraged to ask questions at any time and may discuss concerns about your treatment.
4. Confidentiality and Privacy
Your privacy is taken seriously.
Personal health information is collected, used, stored, and disclosed in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and professional requirements.
Where applicable, Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) establishes requirements concerning the collection, use, disclosure, protection, access, and correction of personal health information. Electronic communication should be limited to appropriate administrative matters unless another method has been specifically discussed and agreed upon.
Please do not send detailed clinical information, emergency requests, passwords, financial information, or highly sensitive personal information through an unsecured website form.
6. Virtual Therapy
Virtual psychotherapy may be offered when clinically appropriate.
Before beginning virtual therapy, clients should participate from a reasonably private and secure location and use a device and internet connection that they consider appropriate for confidential communication.
You should also provide your current physical location when requested, particularly at the beginning of a virtual session, so that appropriate emergency procedures can be followed if a serious safety concern arises.
Virtual therapy is not appropriate for every situation, particularly circumstances requiring immediate in-person assessment or emergency intervention.
7. Emergencies and Crisis Situations
This practice does not provide 24-hour emergency or crisis monitoring.
Messages, emails, and appointment requests are not continuously monitored.
If you are experiencing an immediate safety emergency, call 911 or attend the nearest emergency department.
For suicide crisis support in Canada, call or text 988.
8. Appointment Attendance and Cancellations
Clients are expected to attend scheduled appointments on time.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least [24 or 48] hours' notice.
Late cancellations and missed appointments may result in full fee payment, as outlined in the service agreement.
9. Fees and Payment
The current psychotherapy fee is $150 per session for a 55-minute session, or $185 per session for a 75-minute session.
Payment is due after the appointment.
Accepted payment methods include debit/credit card and/or e-transfer.
Fees and payment arrangements will be communicated clearly before services begin.
10. Insurance and Third-Party Coverage
Clients are responsible for confirming whether their extended health plan covers services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
The practice does not guarantee reimbursement by an insurance company or other third party.
Where appropriate, receipts will identify the provider and service accurately.

To protect privacy and professional boundaries, I do not use social media platforms as a substitute for psychotherapy or confidential communication.
I do not accept or request client testimonials, endorsements, or reviews for use in advertising.
